Today's Update

Today has been an interesting day! Stacey spent the day at our friend's house around the corner and I went around with some guys rescuing cats, cars, and people! No, we are not superheroes... just a few crazy guys with chainsaws! :)

Our church also set up a shelter today for people without electricity. There were a lot of people there involved with set up. It is really neat to be a part of such a loving church family!

The Sisk household power came on this evening at some point. We are now back at home. Unfortunately, people who have had electric are now losing it. On top of this it has started to rain again which probably means more ice real soon!

There, Home, and Around the Corner!

Over the weekend I had an opportunity to go and visit a buddy from Kansas City. It has become somewhat of a tradition to go see the lights at "The Plaza" around Christmas time. We had a great time and one thing we added this year was going to the College Basketball Experience in downtown KC. Click the picture to see pictures from the weekend.

Weekend at Kent's

Well, when I left on Friday to go "There" (KC) the one concern we had was the weather. After much thought, Stacey and I decided that it should be fine because the roads were still looking okay. My job was to pay close attention to the weather and make sure to be back on Sunday before the weather got too bad. So here is what happened that threw off the system...

Kansas City, nothing major happening
Holt Summit, thunderstorm in the middle of the night that turns to ice. MAJOR PROBLEM!!!

I left KC early Sunday so I could take my time and be safe. Stacey was getting out of church about the time I was traveling through Columbia (30 miles away from home). This is also when I began to realize how bad the weather had become. Over the phone, I could tell Stacey had some concern in her voice and rightfully so! Basically her update boiled down to this... we have no electricity at "Home". Trees and power lines are down all over town. It is very= similar to what happened in Springfield last year... AND, it's not over yet!!! More rain and ice with temperatures in the low 30's is predicted up to Wednesday.

God has provided for us through this time... "Right Around the Corner!" Our friends, who live around the corner from us still have electricity! Yeah, it amounts to about 5 houses away so all is good. We are grateful for their generosity and it is where we have set up our temporary residency. We have also had several others offer us a place to stay during this time.

Please pray for the people in the community as we go through this turmoil. Electricity is out in several houses now and is expected to get worse!

So that's our latest update on us there, home, and around the corner!

Colorado bound...and safely there!

We woke up this morning with an adventure ahead of us....12+ hours on the road with the two little people!


We have been in four states today...Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and now Colorado.

Jayden and Zeke did a GREAT job!

And Stacey Slept a lot.

But we eventually made it to our destination safely.

We are very excited to hang out with our friends, the Mackintoshes, and visit with some churches about Sports Crusaders opportunities down the road!

Visit to The Shryock's Corn Maze

We packed up Saturday morning to take the 35 minute trip north the the corn maze! It was a very fun and relaxing time. The boys really enjoyed running around the maze and picking pumpkins. I have to give Mike and his family a big "Thanks" for their part in making the trip so enjoyable!

If you get a chance to go you will really enjoy the down to earth atmosphere with lots of fun for the kids. We did not capture it on camera, but there is this amazing gumball machine inside the barn. I think it is 30-40 feet high!

Holts Summit, Harvest Fest

Over the weekend Stacey and I were heavily involved in the Holts Summit Harvest Fest! We had the opportunity to work with the ministries we are involved in and love on kids and families. We had a great time! Games were played, songs were sung, candy was given out, and Bibles were placed in hands!

Annoying Conveniences!

Recently I found myself really irritated! This summer, I've been traveling between Grandma's house and home...and I was getting irritated at home. No, Stacey and I have not been fighting. Yes, I still, most of the time, think the boys are an incredible blessing. It's just that at home, I had a problem...and it was driving me crazy!

What was the problem? THIS!


Okay, so you probably don't know what this is, but let me explain. This little piece is what was keeping my ice maker at home from working! It's called a "water inlet valve".

I know, crazy isn't it. Why in the world would such a stupid thing like a broken ice maker keep me irritated? Because I like ice!!!

When I visit grandma, I kinda roam around. Meaning, I don't have ice at my convenience down there. So why... Why does it bother me so much at home? It is because when I am at home I am accustomed to having ice and it was not there any more! And now, with the weather being so unbelievably HOT...I want ICE!

I know, it is silly to write a whole blog about such a little thing. But this little piece represents a big distraction...and I did something about it!

The point? You decide!

A Trip to the Movie

Friday, August 10, Stacey had a great responsibility...drive Camp Spark* (12 kids and two teachers) to Jefferson City to watch the movie "Flushed Away". Stacey, when living in Eureka a few years back, got her CDL and is sometimes asked to drive the church bus. This was a fun opportunity. I was invited along to help with Jayden and Zeke...so I accepted. This was Zeke's first movie and he did not care to sit still. However, Jayden really seemed to enjoy himself.

*Camp Spark is a summer day-camp for elementary aged kids. It is hosted by UHBC. The movie trip was a special treat since today was the last day of camp. It was an honor to be a part of the event and Stacey did a GREAT job driving the kiddos around.

It's been a while!

Okay...so it has been a while since I wrote on this little journal. This is par for the course with me and journals. Unfortunately...no one has contacted me giving me the "what for" so I am not sure if anyone really reads these or not. No worries...at least I have a way of going back and seeing what happened!

Since my last entry I have been to Alaska and Mexico, started teaching Sunday School, continued to be in the praise team, lead up a statewide hoopfest, been planning a mission trip, helped train our leaders and staff for the summer missions, finished our basement at home and slept an average of 5.2 hours per night. Okay...so I am not sure about the sleep thing...but it certainly feels that way sometimes. You can see that there has been a lot going on in my part of the world. But, I know, you are more curious about the other part of the family.


Stacey is doing great! Recently I had the opportunity to see her piano students perform at their first recital. It is pretty neat how quick they learn and how well they do. She continues to lead the praise team and does a fantastic job. Also, she occasionally has Creative Memory gatherings. She also thinks I am the greatest husband in the world because for mothers day she was honored with new dishes to replaced the old, cracked, and missing dishes of the past. Yeah...they are big dishes that fit lots of food so I am happy. She picked them out!




Jayden is doing very good. It is amazing how much bigger he gets every time I look at him. Although he is rebellious at times, he has a sweet heart. It is not rare to see him giving little brother a hug and kiss. This usually comes right before he knocks him down...but it is a good start! He learns new things every day and his phrase of this phase is "You Like Me?" It is rather cute.



Zeke...hmmm...this kid is a mystery. Sweet loving and happy one minute, bossy and upset the next. What can you do? He is pretty misunderstood I am sure...with a long way from being understood. He tends to not want to talk, but instead, grunt and make noises assuming you are going to understand. We have started teaching him some signs but it is a slow process. We are praying for the day this mystery is revealed.

Abby (the dog) is doing rather well. She continues to roam the yard in efforts to find every stick imaginable to chew up...or beg someone to play fetch with her. The only problem...she doesn't like to drop the stick so you can throw it!

Well...as you can see we are all still going good. God continues to provide and give us opportunities to honor Him daily.

Zeke Turns 1!

The fire department would have thrown a fit, but we managed to have a great time with the 24 adults and 15 1/2 kids (one of our guests was pregnant) we crammed into the Sisk household. Zeke was the featured event. The Lord has given us a full year with the little man despite big brothers attempt to "love him to death!"

The event started with Pizza, continued with unveiling gifts, and ended with the old "icing over my face so much I can barely breathe" event.


We were grateful to share such a special time with friends and family. Thanks to everyone who came. For those who couldn't...we missed you!

God has truly blessed the Sisk family!

"Stepping Up"

Recently I built the little guys a new stepping stool. This is mostly for Jayden at this point. We're trying to teach him to wash his hands and brush his teeth. He LOVES the idea of doing these things on his own and really tries hard to impress us. We have to chuckle at the mess he seems to make. Even though he tries so hard and we continually give him direction, he gets water everywhere! He is growing up so very fast and we love to watch all of the things that he learns each and every day!
